How to Get Healthy Gums

It is important to maintain healthy gums to keep your mouth healthy. The most common cause of tooth loss in adults is gum disease. The early stages of gum disease are mild. Early gum disease is easily reversible. Nevertheless, without treatment, it will eventually destroy the bone and tissue that support your teeth.

Here are some common steps to consider if you’re experiencing the early signs of gum disease or want to prevent future problems.

1. Brush With Fluoridated Toothpaste.

Brush with fluoride toothpaste for two minutes. Spend about 30 seconds in each of the four quadrants of your mouth. Replace your toothbrush every three months. Changing your toothbrush after you have been sick is recommended to prevent reinfection. The way you store your toothbrush is also crucial. To prevent microorganisms from growing, place it in a breathable but covered container (such as a medicine cabinet or drawer).

2. Get Regular Dental Cleaning.

Your dentist will be able to detect early signs of gum disease. The dentist can remove plaque and tartar from teeth and gums with a special cleaning procedure. Additionally, regular cleaning can reverse the mild form of gum disease. The recommended frequency of dental visits is twice a year, but if you have gum disease, you may need to see your dentist more often.

3. Quit smoking.

One of the best things you can do to achieve healthy gums is to stop smoking. Smoking can damage your gums in several ways. Smoking tends to impair your immune system, making it more difficult for an infection to be fought off by your gums. Additionally, smoking makes it more difficult for your injured gums to heal. Also, chewing tobacco should be avoided because it’s just as dangerous as smoking.

4. Use An Antibacterial Mouthwash.

It can do a lot more than make your breath smell better. It can also help keep your gums in good shape. The plaque will come off of your gums when you use mouthwash. Keep in mind that not all mouthwashes are the same. Make sure to look for a mouthwash with the American Dental Association’s seal of approval.
